UN Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia 2024 (Fully Funded)

Applications are open for the UN Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia. This is a fully funded conference announced by the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) for the Journalists to cover the 16th UN Biodiversity Conference of Parties (COP16) from October 21, 2024, to November 1, 2024. The participants will arrive on 19th Oct and depart on 2nd November 2024. To support the fellows, EJN will cover the cost of Economy class Airfare, Accommodation in Cali, Meals, Ground Transportation, Medical Insurance and Visa costs will be reimbursed.

Biodiversity refers to the amazing variety of living life on Earth. Wildlife populations across the globe have declined by a staggering 69% since 1970. Over 1 million animal and plant species risk disappearing by 2030. To ensure that this fellowship receives rich and diverse coverage worldwide, especially in countries deeply affected by its outcomes, the Earth Journalism Network invites journalists from low and middle-income countries interested in attending and reporting on the event. This fellowship helps journalists report on biodiversity issues and draw attention. More details are given below.

EJN will select 5 fellows for in-person fellowship. EJN will cover:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must:

  • Professional journalists working for established media outlets in low- or middle-income countries (check classification online).
  • Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio).
  • Open to Freelance reporters and staff from all types of media organizations
  • Experience reporting on biodiversity issues.
  • You have a story idea about the impacts of biodiversity loss for COP16.
  • Available to travel to Cali, Colombia from October 19th to November 2nd, 2024.
  • Fluent in English.
