What Makes the FASPE Fellowship Worth Applying For?

The FASPE Fellowship is an intensive educational program that examines the ethical responsibilities of professionals through the historical experiences of Germany and Europe during the Nazi era.

Participants will explore how professionals and institutions contributed to historical events and discuss the lessons that can be applied to contemporary professional challenges.

The fellowship includes daily seminars, small-group discussions, case studies, and visits to historically significant locations. Participants will also learn alongside fellows from different professional backgrounds, encouraging interdisciplinary discussions and international collaboration.

Beyond the two-week program, selected participants will become part of FASPE’s international alumni network, which offers opportunities for continued learning, professional connections, and networking.

Objectives and Overview of the Fellowship

Objective 1: Learn from History

  • Study the Past: The program looks at how people in different professions—like doctors, lawyers, and journalists—behaved in Nazi Germany.
  • Focus on Choices: It’s not just a history lesson. It’s about why these individuals, who were supposed to be guided by a professional code of ethics, made choices that supported or went along with terrible things.

Objective 2: Apply it to Today

  • Face Today’s Problems: The fellowship then uses these historical examples as a starting point to help you think about big ethical challenges in your own career right now.
  • Become a Better Leader: The goal is to help you develop the skills and courage to be an ethical leader in your field, so you can make good decisions and stand up for what’s right.

Tour to the Historical Sites

Fellows will also visit key sites of Nazi history and participate in daily seminars led by specialized faculty.
