Eligibility Criteria
- U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or national by the application deadline. Permanent residents are ineligible. Dual citizens should check specific award descriptions.
- Education (Bachelor’s): Must have a bachelor’s degree.
- Arts Exception: For creative/performing arts, four years of professional training/experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- Language Proficiency: Must meet the award’s language requirements and demonstrate sufficient competency for the project and life in the host country.
- J.D. Holders: Eligible to apply.
- M.D. Holders:
- Eligible for advanced academic study, but not internships or residencies.
- Those with completed postgraduate training proposing hospital/clinic research should apply to the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.
- Grants do not authorize activities requiring a medical or nursing license.
- Proposals for medical research involving clinical training, patient care, or patient contact are not authorized.
