The IWR is inviting writers from all over the world to attend the annual Iceland Writers Alumni Retreat. This Retreat offers a Full and Partial Scholarship to talented writers to connect with other brilliant writers and enhance your writing skills. The Winners of the Full Iceland Writers Retreat Scholarship will get Round Airfare to Iceland, accommodation, and Participation fees covered by the IWR. The Partial Scholarship covers the Participation fee only. Anyone interested can apply for this Essay competition. Candidates do not need to be professional writers. More details are given below.

Dates of Iceland Writers Retreat Award 2025
The 2025 Retreat is Scheduled to run from April 23 – 27, 2025. The venue for 2025 will be the Fosshotel Reykjavík.

What is Included in the Full Scholarship?
- Participant Fee
- Four Nights Accommodation at the retreat hotel
- Round-trip flights to Iceland
What’s Included in the Partial Funding?
Partial funding covers the participant fee only, and neither accommodation nor round-trip flights.

Eligibility Criteria
- Anyone who is aged 18 or over can apply.
- Applications from people of all backgrounds and with all levels of writing experience.
- The Competition is open to the nationals of all the countries.
- IELTS is not required, but proficiency in English is required.
- The recipients will be chosen based primarily on two factors:
- The potential they demonstrate (or have demonstrated) as a writer.
- They need financial support to be able to attend.
- Evaluation of the answers in the online application.
- Applications will be reviewed by a group of IWR alumni.
