This Fellowship is organized by the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) at the University of Johannesburg. Applicants can apply without Paying an Application Fee. The Theme of the 2025 JIAS Writing Fellowship Program is “Global Blackness.” The Fellowship explores the diverse experiences, intellectual traditions, and theories connected to Blackness across different geographies and contexts. Why JIAS Writing Fellowship?
The JIAS Writing Fellowship provides a dedicated space and time for scholars and creatives to delve deeply into experimental research and creative work in the Global South. The fellowship aims to remove the typical academic and professional burdens, such as teaching and administrative tasks. Fellows will focus solely on their work for 3 months in South Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should hold a PhD qualification.
- Strong research or creative track record (publications, projects, exhibitions)
- Preference will be given to the applicants from the Global South region.
- Preference for women and gender-diverse applicants of color.
