Big Announcement by British Council. The British Council IELTS One Skill Retake is a new scheme launched by the British Council in 2023 through which you can appear in a single module to improve your score without retaking the full test. For example, you have got 7 bands in three modules but got 5 in one module. Then instead of giving the full test again, you can appear in one module only. This is called IELTS One Skill Retake.
If you want to improve your score on one test skill, you can retake any of the four IELTS skills – Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking. This scheme has been launched in a few countries but will be available worldwide by the end of 2023. Most universities accept this IELTS One-skill retake test. More details and conditions are given below.
What is the British Council IELTS One Skill Retake Scheme?
Here is how it works:
- You went to the Original test day.
- Receive results – we hope you are happy, but if not:
- Book IELTS One Skill Retake, and appear in your desired module.
- Complete IELTS One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original test day.
Requirements of One Skill Retake Scheme
- You can only book the IELTS one-skill retake if you’ve completed a full IELTS on-computer test.
- You must also have received your results.
- You can only retake one skill once per the original test.
- You must sit the One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original test.
Availability of IELTS One Skill Retake Test
IELTS One Skill Retake is available or currently launching in Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and Uganda and will continue to be launched worldwide in selected British Council test locations.

Result of One Skill Retake
You will get a new Test Report Form. This includes your updated IELTS One Skill Retake score as well as the results for the other three skills in the original test.
You can choose whether you use your original or your new Test Report Form.
