The applications are open to apply for the UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 in Germany. It is a Fully Funded 9 Months Training Program in Hamburg, Germany. The Program will run from 7th July 2025 to 31 March 2026. The Purpose of this Program is to invite candidates from developing countries who are working on issues related to the law of the sea, maritime law, or dispute settlement. The program aims to develop the skills and deepen their knowledge of dispute settlement in the law of the sea under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The Training Program also includes a visit to other Countries in Europe like the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and Germany. There is no application fee and all participant’s costs including Travel, accommodation, insurance, and stipend are covered by the Nippon Foundation. More details are given below.

Eligibility Criteria
- The Fellowship is open to applicants from Developing countries.
- Age: 25-40 years old.
- Education: Law degree and demonstrated research capacity.
- Profession: Junior to mid-level government officials (ocean affairs/maritime law) OR researchers (ocean/maritime legal issues).
- Research Proposal: Must propose a research topic relevant to their State’s UNCLOS implementation (especially Part XV).
- Nomination: The nominating body must explain the applicant’s tasks and how training will benefit the institution/State.
- Language Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of English or French, and working knowledge of the other. English is the primary language of instruction.
