The program is open to students of all nationalities and offers an exciting and challenging opportunity. Approximately 50 students from around the world will join the program at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C. The internship is a paid, 10-to-12-week program running between June and September 2026. To be eligible for the IMF FIP, you must be currently enrolled as a student at a university worldwide. There is no application fee. More details are below.

Duration of the IMF FIP
Successful applicants will undertake a 10-12 week paid internship between June and September 2026. The exact dates will be decided later with the interns.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the IMF Fund Internship Program, you must meet the basic criteria:
- For Economist: Be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field.
- For Legal Department: You must be one to two years away from completing your LL.M., J.D., or equivalent law degree.
- Maintain a student status at the time of the internship.
- Age below 32.
- Fluency in English (written and oral).
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and computer skills.

Visa Requirements for the IMF Internship
If you are not a citizen of the United States or you do not have any other work authorization in the USA, you will need a G4 visa. The IMF will provide the paperwork necessary to facilitate your G4 visa request with U.S. authorities.
