Applications are open for the Understanding Korea Essay Competition 2024. The Contest is organized by the Center for International Affairs at the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS). The prizes will be distributed by the Ministers of MOFA, MOE. This contest is open to the Foreigners, and Koreans living abroad. A huge Grand cash prize and certificates will be given.
For many years the Government of Korea has been trying to attract international students, youth, and leaders through different programs such as scholarships, exchange programs, internships, and essay competitions. In April 2024, the Korean Ministry of Culture announced Korea Invites U program, a fully funded free trip to the South Korea for those deeply connected to the country. Details About Understanding Korea Essay Competition 2024
The Primary Goal of this Essay contest is to correct the incorrect information and misconception about Korea and improve the overall presentation of Korea in international textbooks and other educational materials.
Essay Topics
1) International Images of Korea
- Images of Korea as presented in international instruction materials (international textbooks, internet sites, etc.)
- Proposals on how to improve the image of Korea
2) Notable Applications of using Understanding Korea Materials
- Notable Applications of using Understanding Korea materials and proposals for new materials.

Prizes and Awards
Three types of Prizes:
- 2 Grand Prizes: 600,000 KRW and Award Certificate Presented by the Ministers of MOFA, MOE.
- 4 Excellence Prizes: 400,000 KRW and Award Certificate Presented by the President of Academy of Korean Studies (AKS).
- 6 Encouragement Prizes: 200,000 KRW and Certificate presented by the Director of the Center for International Affairs.
Eligibility
- Foreigners and Koreans Living abroad.
- The Langauge of the Essay in English or in Korean.
- Essay Length: Approximately 3 Pages in A4 Format.

The last to Submit your Essays for the Understanding Korea Essay Competition 2024 is 31st July 2024. The Winners will be announced on 25th September 2024.
