The AAUW international fellowship is a scholarship program sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The AAUW scholarship is for women who are not United States Citizens to pursue full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States. The fellowship is open to women from all countries to complete their studies at accredited U.S. institutions. A limited number of fellowship awards are also available to women who are members of Graduate Women International (see the list of GWI affiliates) to complete a degree program from outside the USA. What type of Fellowship does AAUW offer?
The AAUW provides funding and support for women who are unable to afford to study in the USA. Applicants must have applied to their proposed institutions of study by the time of the AAUW fellowship deadline. You don’t need to show an acceptance letter.
Fellows must return to their home countries to make a significant impact as leaders in business, government, academia, community activism, the arts, or scientific fields.
Study Level Fields of Study
- Master’s: Intended at J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., or medical degrees such as M.D., D.D.S., etc. Certificates, associate degrees, and undergraduate degrees are ineligible.
- Doctoral Fellowships: Intedned at Research degrees, such as Ph.D. or Ed.D.
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: Applicants must provide proof of their doctorate; hold a doctorate classified as a research degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., D.B.A., D.M.) or an M.F.A. by the application deadline; and indicate where they will conduct their research.

AAUW Fellowship Award Amount
- Master’s/first professional degree: $20,000
- Doctoral: $25,000
- Postdoctoral: $50,000
These funds are available for the:
- Educational Expenses.
- Living expenses. Dependent child care.
- Travel to professional meetings, conferences, or seminars that do not exceed 10% of the fellowship total.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree by the application deadline.
- Previous recipients of any AAUW fellowship can not apply.
- Unsuccessful applicants may reapply.
- If you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have dual citizenship with the U.S., you cannot apply for this fellowship.
- Must Return to their home country to pursue a professional career upon finishing their studies.
- Submit the English proficiency scores such as IELTS, TOEFL, or any other.
- International Fellowships are open to women, including people who identify as women, in all fields of study at accredited institutions of higher education or, for postdoctoral fellows, research. AAUW will decide which institutions meet the eligibility criteria.
